Lens implantation (ICL or intraocular lenses) is one of the latest and most effective medical solutions for vision correction, especially for patients who are not suitable candidates for LASIK or Femto-LASIK, such as those with high myopia, thin corneas, or chronic dry eyes.
Professor Dr. Amr Saeed, Professor of Ophthalmology, confirms that lens implantation is now a safe and effective option that provides patients with clear, long-lasting vision while preserving the health of the eye tissues.
Dr. Amr Saeed explains that the procedure is typically used in cases of:
High myopia or hyperopia that cannot be corrected with laser procedures.
Thin corneas that cannot tolerate tissue removal as in LASIK.
Patients with severe dry eyes.
Individuals who want to correct their vision without altering the cornea.
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens): Placed between the iris and the natural lens, removable or replaceable if needed.
Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE): The natural lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens, often used for high hyperopia or early cataract cases.
Preoperative Examinations: Include precise eye measurements, intraocular pressure checks, and retina health assessment.
Local Anesthesia: Usually performed using numbing eye drops only.
Lens Insertion: The lens is inserted through a very small corneal incision without the need for stitches.
Rapid Recovery: Patients can resume normal daily activities within a few days.
High-quality vision, even in low light conditions.
Preserves corneal tissue without altering its shape.
Reversible procedure (for ICL lenses).
Reduced risk of dry eyes compared to laser surgery.
Use all prescribed eye drops as directed.
Avoid rubbing the eyes or exposing them to contaminated water.
Attend all follow-up appointments to ensure lens stability and eye health.
Wear sunglasses outdoors to protect eyes from UV rays.
