IVF and ICSI are among the most advanced techniques in treating infertility and delayed conception, helping thousands of couples around the world achieve their dream of having children.
Here, Dr. Ali Emam, Consultant of IVF, Endoscopy, and High-Risk Pregnancy in Smouha, Alexandria, stresses that the success of these procedures depends on accurate diagnosis and selecting the most suitable method for each couple.
Dr. Ali Emam explains that the key difference lies in how fertilization occurs. In IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), the eggs and sperm are placed together in a special culture dish, allowing natural fertilization to happen. In ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), however, a single sperm is injected directly into the egg under a microscope to ensure fertilization.
He confirms that choosing between the two methods depends on test results and the couple’s specific condition, especially in cases of severe male infertility or poor egg quality.
Dr. Ali Emam warns that the ICSI process involves several precise steps: stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, collecting the eggs using endoscopy, fertilizing them in the lab, monitoring embryo growth, and finally transferring the healthy embryos into the uterus at the optimal time to ensure the highest chance of success.
He also stresses that proper post-procedure follow-up is crucial, as aftercare directly affects embryo implantation and overall success rates.
Dr. Ali Emam confirms that the success rate of ICSI depends on several factors, including the woman’s age, the quality of the eggs and sperm, and the condition of the uterus, in addition to the expertise of the medical team performing the procedure.
He points out that continuous follow-up and the application of advanced fertilization protocols have significantly improved success rates in recent years.
Dr. Ali Emam highlights the importance of following all medical instructions before, during, and after the procedure.
He stresses that maintaining mental calmness, balanced nutrition, and avoiding stress plays a vital role in achieving the desired outcome, alongside regular monitoring to ensure the body responds well to treatment.
Dr. Ali Emam warns that IVF and ICSI are no longer considered the “last resort” as they once were, but rather safe and highly effective solutions for most infertility cases when performed by an experienced specialist.
He confirms that with modern medical advancements, hope is always there — and the dream of parenthood is now closer than ever before.
