Laser treatments are among the most effective cosmetic procedures for addressing pigmentation, hair removal, skin rejuvenation, and acne scar reduction. However, the success of any laser session depends not only on the technology used but also on proper aftercare. Dr. Shaimaa Gharib, dermatologist and aesthetic specialist, emphasizes that following post-laser instructions is essential to protect the skin, prevent complications, and accelerate healing.
Following a laser session, the skin becomes more sensitive and may experience temporary effects such as:
Redness or mild swelling
A slight burning or warm sensation
Dryness or mild flaking
Temporary darkening or light spots in treated areas
These symptoms are normal and usually subside within a few days—provided proper care is followed.
Use High-SPF Sunscreen (SPF 50+)
Apply daily, even indoors, to protect the skin from sun-induced pigmentation.
Keep the Skin Well-Moisturized
Use fragrance-free medical-grade moisturizers to maintain hydration and promote healing.
Avoid Direct Heat Exposure
Refrain from saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers for at least 48–72 hours.
Avoid Heavy Makeup
Especially within the first 24–48 hours, particularly after deep facial laser sessions.
Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water helps support internal skin hydration and cell regeneration.
❌ Don’t rub or peel flaking skin
Let any peeling occur naturally to avoid scarring.
❌ Avoid harsh skincare products
Such as retinol, acids (AHA/BHA), exfoliants, or scented soaps.
❌ Don’t go out in the sun without protection
Even for short periods, especially in the first week.
❌ Avoid other treatments (e.g., chemical peels or microneedling)
Unless approved by your doctor.
If redness lasts more than 3 days, blisters appear, or irritation increases significantly, contact your dermatologist for evaluation.
